What is it?
Composite bonding is a minimally invasive cosmetic dentistry procedure done to contour and shape front teeth to make them appear straighter, longer, wider, to close gaps between the teeth, or to cover intrinsic staining/defects.
Composite bonding is a safe and popular treatment option for patients wishing to improve their smile without compromising healthy tooth structure.
How does it Work?
After discussing your desires and expectations, we start treatment. Composite bonding involves applying a filling material called composite to the edges or corners of teeth in the same shade as that of your natural teeth. This may also be called ‘composite edge bonding.’ The composite is then shaped and contoured to replicate the optimum appearance of a natural tooth. Composite bonding can be done on just one tooth or on multiple teeth. Most commonly, patients opt for composite bonding on the front six upper teeth in order to create a symmetrical smile. When the composite is added to the full front surface of a tooth, this is called a composite veneer.
No injections are required for composite bonding and no drilling is done to healthy tooth structure as we believe in preserving your natural tooth structure as much as possible.
Depending on your habits, such as smoking, grinding teeth, and eating hard foods with your front teeth, composite may stain or chip. To prevent this, post treatment instructions are given and regular six monthly checkups are done to assess the need for maintenance. Stained or chipped composites can be adjusted at any point by cleaning, polishing, or adding composite to chipped areas.
