What Is a Hydrafacial?
Posted on 12th June 2024 by Dr Yusra Al-Mukhtar
Are you noticing your skin looking a bit duller than usual? Or is it that fine lines, wrinkles and dark spots are starting to show with age? While this is a normal part of ageing, with some tender loving care, there are ways that you can keep your youthful skin for a little longer.
Hydrafacials are a very popular skin health solution to address specific skin concerns in just one treatment. Not only this, but they also come with no downtime or side effects. Keep on reading to learn how you can reverse the signs of ageing skin.
So, What is a Hydrafacial?
Simply put, a Hydrafacial is a medical-grade resurfacing treatment that clears out pores and hydrates the skin. This patented technology combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration, and antioxidant protection in one.
The result? Clearer, more beautiful and radiant skin tone with no discomfort or downtime. Hydrafacials address a range of skin concerns, including fine lines and wrinkles, elasticity and firmness, even tone and vibrancy, skin texture, brown spots, oily and congested skin, and enlarged pores. Keep reading to find out how this is achieved.
How Does It Work and Can I Expect During a Hydrafacial Treatment?
A Hydrafacial treatment is a multi-step process that typically lasts about 60 minutes (unless you opt for our Express Hydrafacial). Here are the six steps involved to help you achieve a high level of cleansing and hydration.
Step 1: Skin Detox
During this stage, we aim to increase the circulation of blood flow and eliminate any toxins in the skin through the use of a specially formulated lymphatic drainage technique.
Step 2: Cleanse & Exfoliate
Dead skin cells and impurities are gently lifted for a deep-cleaning result. This process removes dead skin cells and impurities to reveal a fresh new layer of skin. This deep clean is essential before preparing for the third stage of the treatment.
Step 3: Applying a Brightening Agent
At this stage, your skin has undergone a thorough detox, cleaning and exfoliation and is ready for a gentle salicylic and glycolic solution to be applied. This helps to loosen any dirt and debris from your pour to give it a deeper skin cleanse. It also helps to give you a magical glow by brightening your skin.
Step 4: Extraction Time!
It’s now time to remove any blackheads and other impurities that may be clogging your pores. To do this, we use honey extract and salicylic acid, both extremely helpful ingredients for the skin.
Step 5: Hydrate
To quench the thirst of your skin, replenish it and help keep it bouncy, we use a combination of hyaluronic acid, antioxidants and peptides. Hydration isn’t only important for optimal body function, your skin also thrives when it’s not dehydrated.
Step 6: Rejuvenation
In the final step of the treatment, we focus on rejuvenating your skin. By this, we mean focusing on stimulating collagen production and reducing redness to leave your skin glowing. To do this, we use an LED light.
Is A Hydrafacial Suitable for Every Skin Type?
Yes – whether you have oily, dry, or sensitive skin, a Hydrafacial treatment is suitable for you. During a consultation, our skin experts will listen to your circumstances, which will allow them to tailor the serums used during the treatment to address particular skin concerns such as acne, hyperpigmentation, or ageing.
Please note, however, that there are some situations that may restrict or completely prevent you from having a Hydrafaial. These include:
- If you have an active rash
- If you have sunburn
- If you have rosacea
- If you’ve taken Roaccutane, Accutane or Isotretinoin in the past 6 months
- If you’re pregnant
- If you’re using topical steroids
- If you’ve just had Botox or fillers
- If you’ve used retinol in the past few days.
How Much Does A Hydrafacial Cost?
The cost of a Hydrafacial can vary depending on location and the specific needs of your skin. At Dr Yusra, our Hydrafacials start from £150. To make this treatment more accessible, we also offer an Express Hydrafacial from £99.
Do Hydrafacials Have Any Downtime After Treatment?
One of the most appealing aspects of a Hydrafacial is that there is no downtime. Unlike other treatments that may require a recovery period, you can return to your normal activities immediately after a Hydrafacial.
Your skin will look and feel refreshed and radiant right after the treatment. If you do happen to experience any redness post-treatment, don’t worry, this will quickly subside.
Do Hydrafacials Have Any Side Effects?
Hydrafacials are generally very safe and well-tolerated and most people experience no side effects. However, as with any skincare treatment, there is a slight chance of minor side effects, such as slight redness or sensitivity, immediately following the procedure.
These effects are usually short-lived and subside quickly. It’s important to discuss any skin sensitivities or allergies with one of our skincare providers before the treatment.
How Do I Know If I Need A Hydrafacial?
If you’re experiencing any of the following skin concerns, a Hydrafacial may be beneficial for you:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Uneven skin tone or texture
- Brown spots
- Oily and congested skin
- Enlarged pores
- Dry or dehydrated skin
Additionally, if you’re looking for a treatment that provides immediate results with no downtime, a Hydrafacial could be the perfect option. It’s an excellent choice for those who want to improve their skin’s appearance and health without the hassle of a lengthy recovery period… who’s got time for that?
