What Is Sculptra?

Sculptra is an injectable biostimulator that gradually restores facial volume by stimulating your body’s natural collagen production. Unlike traditional fillers that provide instant volume, Sculptra works over time to rebuild the skin’s structure, improve elasticity and smooth out lines and hollow areas. At Dr Yusra Clinic, Sculptra is used to subtly and progressively rejuvenate the face for natural-looking, long-lasting results.

How Does It Work?

Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a synthetic substance that has been safely used in medical treatments for decades. Once injected, PLLA microparticles stimulate fibroblasts within the skin to produce new collagen. Over several weeks, this new collagen helps to restore volume and firmness. The result is gradual, with improvements continuing over time for a refreshed but not overfilled appearance.

What Can I Expect During Treatment?

Sculptra is injected into the deeper layers of the skin using a fine needle or cannula. Your practitioner may apply numbing cream beforehand to minimise discomfort. The treatment takes around 30 to 45 minutes depending on the area being treated. Most patients require 2 to 3 sessions, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, for optimal results. After treatment, you will be advised to massage the area to ensure even product distribution.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Side effects are typically mild and temporary. These can include swelling, bruising, tenderness or small lumps at the injection sites, which usually settle within a few days. Because the effects of Sculptra build gradually, it is important to work with an experienced medical practitioner to avoid overcorrection and achieve a natural look.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sculptra is most commonly used to restore volume in the cheeks, temples, jawline and lower face. It can also be used to improve skin laxity and texture in areas such as the neck or décolletage.

Traditional dermal fillers provide instant volume, whereas Sculptra stimulates collagen production for a more gradual, natural-looking effect. The results develop over several weeks and last longer than most fillers.

You will begin to notice subtle improvements within 6 to 12 weeks as new collagen is produced. These results continue to build over time.

Sculptra results can last up to 2 years, with some patients enjoying longer-lasting improvement. Maintenance treatments can help preserve the results.

Most patients need a series of 2 to 3 treatments, spaced around 4 to 6 weeks apart. The exact number depends on the area being treated and the degree of volume loss.
